Solo Trip 2k19
I decided in February 2019 that I wanted to go to Hawai’i. I decided to treat myself for the hard work I have been putting in. I did not care if it was by my lonely! When picking a place to go solo, I figured Hawai’i was one of the safest places I could choose. So I tracked flights for my trip in February and near the end of the month I received an email update that flights to Hawai’i were $350 for the end of May! If you are looking for great deals on flights, consider monitoring google flights! Another hack, is to go into the airport and purchase the tickets over the counter! I secured the flight, then I had to think about a place to stay. I looked up hotels, but rates were crazy. I honestly never have stayed at a hotel in Hawai’i. So I decided to browse Airbnb for places near the North shore area of Hawai’i. My cousin Kylie was working on the North shore, and living in Kahuku, so I found a small room in the heart of Kahuku on airbnb, for a great price! I was close to my cousin, and we were able to spend a lot of time together. She is so fun, and I loved the Tui girls were together on the island of our fathers. I felt such a peace over me when I am here. It’s truly a place of my bloodline. My dad was born and raised on the island, his mom, her mom, and so forth. This island is rooted in me. It’s the most amazing feeling to be there. It is the trip I needed. I plan to go every year, if not every 2 years is a must!
I am currently sitting on a beach waiting for the sun to set, admiring the waves, in total awe of the natural beauty that surrounds me. This island is breathtaking. I am so thankful to be here and to be able to experience this. It is something to just enjoy yourself and your life. To be in your own company. I feel full. I feel free. This is what I want to feel forever. I love this life. - An excerpt from my journal Jeane Tui
That was an excerpt I wrote when I was on the beach. I had a lot of alone time to reflect, write, and just enjoy myself. Hawai’i is my favorite place to be at. I feel at home there. It’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. The ocean is mesmerizing. Life here is loved. It’s lived differently. The people are so kind, and genuine. The food was so fresh, and even the traffic is patient and nice. The speed limit on the freeway is 45 mph. While I was there I was able to truly enjoy my self. I went on a hike in a botanical garden, I paid my respects and brought a lei to my uncle Puna at the Laie cemetery, I smoked a joint on the beach as the sun set, I even got to rent a convertible bug and rode top down thru the streets of Hawai’i. It was magical. I am glad I went alone. I am learning to enjoy doing things on my lonely. I got to do everything I love, was in control of my time, and overall it was the perfect solo trip. I recommend everyone to travel somewhere they love, even if it is on your own. Save up for that trip you always dreamed of, book that flight! It is so worth it to see the world and its beauty.
I can’t wait to travel more. My next trip will be Italy 2020.
All Love,
J Tui
